MANILA, Philippines - Perpetual Help faces an uphill battle as it seeks to remain in the Final Four race against San Sebastian in a make-or-break bid on Thursday at The Arena in San Juan.

Tied with Jose Rizal U at fourth spot with 10-7 slates, the Altas battle the San Sebastian Stags (11-5) at the close of their double-round robin elims campaign, needing no less than a victory for at least a playoff for the fourth and last semis berth.

The Bombers are also in a must-win situation but unlike the Altas, the Mandaluyong-based squad will have a rather lighter assignment in the ousted Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals (7-10), also on Thursday.

Perpetual Help is eyeing its first stint in the playoff stage since reaching the semis eight years ago after topping the elimination round and making the finals before losing to Philippine Christian U in two games in the finale.

“When I got the job, I told the school owner that my first goal is to instill discipline to the players and bring back respect to this team,” said Perpetual Help coach Aric del Rosario. “We’ve done that. But the job is not yet finished because all of us want to be in the Final Four.”

Editor's Note: I'm actually rooting for SSC-R on this for two reasons. One is because SSC-R is my wife's alma mater. And the other reason would be is that Letran has already beaten SSC-R twice this season.  If SSC-R and Letran would end up being #2 and #3 on the final standing, there's a good chance that the Knights would reach the finals.
